About CGEF

At COP27, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with the support of Amazon, launched the Climate Gender Equity Fund (CGEF) as one of the first major activities under USAID’s Climate Finance for Development Accelerator, a $250 million initiative designed to mobilise $2.5 billion in public and private climate investments by 2030 to fund a range of climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions. CGEF is an innovative public-private partnership that seeks to increase access to climate finance for gender-responsive, women-led, and women-benefitting organisations that address climate change. In its first year, CGEF raised over $20 million and welcomed founding partners Reckitt, The UPS Foundation, and the Visa Foundation alongside USAID and Amazon. CGEF’s grantmaking is managed by 2X Global, an international non-profit membership organisation and the leading global industry body working at the nexus of climate and gender finance.

About the Role

The CGEF Advisory Council (AC) is made up of CGEF funding partners and independent industry experts at the nexus of climate and gender finance. The purpose of the AC is to drive the strategic vision and direction of CGEF, ensuring that CGEF’s mission to catalyse gender equity in climate finance remains core to all activities.

CGEF is actively seeking 2-5 industry leaders to join its Advisory Council, with a strong emphasis on representation from the Global South. These individuals will encompass a diverse spectrum of national and local actors from the countries where CGEF operates, particularly in developing countries and emerging economies. They will possess significant experience working directly with various relevant entities such as civil society organisations, private sector firms, indigenous groups, and women’s associations. Their invaluable insights will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the regional, national, and subnational contexts of climate and gender investments within CGEF’s scope.

Their main role involves advising CGEF’s AC members on matters such as the terms of reference for the Request for Proposals (RFP), reviewing reports submitted to the AC, and sharing insights on current trends, opportunities, and challenges in climate and gender investments within CGEF-eligible countries.

The term of these experts is two years and will be renewed annually, with their appointment and review being the responsibility of CGEF funding contributors and the Executive Management Team. The selection of these industry experts will be carried out by 2X Global.
