Location: Selected candidates will be deployed in various Departments at Headquarters (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire), Bank’s Regional and Country Offices. However, selected interns will perform their internship either remotely or on-site depending on the needs of their respective hiring units.

Objectives of the Internship Program:

The internship program aims to provide students with professional experience at the African Development Bank and create a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment. However, it’s essential to note that internships do not guarantee immediate employment with the Bank.

Fields of Study Required:

Interns are selected from various fields relevant to the Bank’s operations, including Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development, Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, and more. Special consideration is given to projects directly related to the Bank’s mission.

Timeline and Terms:

Session 2 of the 2024 Internship Program will commence in July 2024. Internships last from three to six months and can be conducted remotely or on-site, depending on the hiring unit’s needs. Selected interns receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance coverage during their internship period.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be aged 30 or younger at the start of the internship.
  • Be enrolled in a master’s level degree program at a recognized educational institution.
  • Hold nationality from one of the African Development Bank’s member countries, including:

Regional member countries: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa, eSwatini, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Non-regional member countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, United Arab Emirates (ADF only).

  • Be fluent in English or French, the Bank’s working languages.
  • Have proficiency in standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), with knowledge of SAP preferred.

Applicants must submit a complete online application and attach a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). The Bank holds two internship sessions per year, and the selection process for Session 1 of 2024 has already concluded. Session 2 applications are now open.
