#Art4Resilience: Knowledge Into Use Awards LAUNCH KIT

We are thrilled to announce the third round of the “Knowledge into Use” awards! These awards provide an exciting opportunity to celebrate creativity, innovation, and resilience by transforming the latest resilience evidence into compelling art.

Creative expression has the power to address complex issues like climate change, food crises, pandemics, and economic uncertainty in accessible and engaging ways. Art, in its various forms, can visually represent the challenges communities face and the resilience strategies they employ to navigate through change.

The “Knowledge into Use” awards aim to identify innovative and creative ways of showcasing resilience evidence. This year, we are focusing on the themes of Food, Finance, and/or Communities. We invite individuals and organizations to tap into their artistic potential, merge it with sound evidence, and showcase it through art.

The contest has three categories: performing arts, visualizing evidence, and participatory approaches connecting arts and science. Winners will receive prizes of 100,000 Swedish Krona in each category.

Examples of former Knowledge into Use award-winning projects include:

  • The Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) created a Flood Mural based on data from their Bipad Portal Platform to visually represent risk and convey the significance of data-driven decisions.
  • Noble Arts communicated the challenges of climate change and conflicts while showcasing the resilience of individuals and communities through their theatre performance, ‘Burnt’.

This year, we’ve added an important element of mentorship. Mentors will lead workshops as expert speakers, sharing their insights into the intersection of arts and evidence. They will offer tailored support to winners through one to two need-based virtual meetings, ensuring personalized guidance to maximize project impact.

Our mentors this year are:

  • Rohan Chakravarty, a cartoonist, illustrator, and the creator of Green Humour.
  • Dr. Nadia Sitas, an academic working in the science-policy interface on issues related to social-ecological resilience.
  • Claire Homewood from CareCreative, an artist inspired by wild nature and environmental concerns.

To participate in the Knowledge into Use awards, submit your concept note and creative piece by May 26th, 2024. Entries should be from registered organizations, but individual artists, science communicators, or knowledge brokers can partner with registered organizations.

The submissions will be judged by a panel of experts based on creativity and originality, evidence base of knowledge, impact and engagement, collaboration and team composition, and clarity and communication.

Winners will receive a grant of 100,000 Swedish Krona, exhibit their artwork during Gobeshona 2025 or New York Climate Week 2024, become a part of the Resilience Evidence Coalition, and receive support from the GRP communications team.

Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your creativity and contribute to building resilience! Apply now and become a part of the #Art4Resilience movement.
