Becoming a WMI Scholar: Your Path to Empowerment and Impact (some funds available)

Are you Interested in Becoming a WMI Scholar?

Our Ideal Candidate

Are you a student, male or female, hailing from a developing country? If so, you may be the ideal candidate for the Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) Scholarship. Here are the criteria for eligibility:

  • Successfully completed secondary education with good to excellent grades
  • Aged 35 or under on March 1, 2024
  • Pursuing your first bachelor’s degree or diploma
  • Enrolled in a program that benefits the community or contributes to your home country’s growth
  • Planning to live and work in your own country after graduation
  • Demonstrated commitment to giving back through volunteering
  • Some funds available for education, but in need of financial assistance to pursue tertiary education

Application Process

Applications must be submitted by March 1 of each year for consideration in the following academic year. WMI Scholars are chosen through a rigorous multi-step review process. Successful applicants will be notified by email on August 1, and their names will be published on our website homepage and the WMI Facebook page. Please note that family members of WMI Staff and WMI Scholars are not eligible to apply.

Important: The use of uncredited ideas, content created by others, or uncredited AI-generated content is considered plagiarism and is against WMI policies. Applicants found to have plagiarized essays will be ineligible for a scholarship.

Scholarships Exclusions

Scholars planning to study in the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, or Western Europe will not qualify for a WMI Scholarship.

Tips for Becoming a Competitive Applicant

Enhance your application by following these suggestions:

  • Document all service activities (dates, activities, time spent, photographs, etc.)
  • Collect secondary school transcript, national exam results, and grading keys
  • Request two letters of recommendation on official stationery
  • Translate all documents into English

Important Dates

  • December 1, 2023: The 2024 WMI Scholars Program application will be available on our website.
  • March 1, 2024: Deadline for submitting the 2024 WMI Scholars Program application.

WMI Scholars Program 2024

Applications from qualified individuals will be accepted until March 1, 2024. Before applying, read the WMI Scholar Program Information Sheet and FAQs for Prospective Scholars to determine eligibility and understand the application process.

Required Application Elements

  • Clear personal photo
  • Essay (topic stated on the application form)
  • 2024 application form
  • Personal essay statement
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Official transcripts and grading keys

Note: Official grading keys must be provided by the issuing institution or government.

How to Apply

If you qualify, apply now! Since 2005, WMI has supported over 700 students worldwide. Approximately 5% of applicants are selected due to limited funding. There are two application methods:

Applying Online

  • Create a free account
  • Fill out information and upload documents
  • Apply online here

Mail-In

  • Print the 2024 application form (available December 1, 2023)
  • Complete it and attach required documents
  • Mail to our office (allow three weeks for international mailing)

Note: Do not email completed applications; we only accept online submissions.

Attention Scholarship Applicants!

No fees are required to submit a scholarship application to WMI. If someone claims otherwise, forward the email to info@wellsmountaininitiative.org to report potential fraud.
