Apply to join IOM-United Nations Migration’s Diaspora Climate Champions: Make a Difference in Climate Action

Are you part of the Bangladeshi, Ghanaian, Jamaican, or Moldovan diaspora in the UK? Are you passionate about climate action? If so, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is looking for individuals like you to become Diaspora Climate Champions and drive positive change within your communities.

About the Diaspora 4 Climate Action Project

IOM’s Diaspora 4 Climate Action project aims to highlight the crucial role of diasporas in climate action and foster collaboration between diaspora communities in the UK and their home countries of Bangladesh, Ghana, Jamaica, and Moldova. By engaging diaspora members, governments, and other stakeholders, the project seeks to support efforts to address the adverse effects of climate change and promote sustainable development.

Join the Movement

We are seeking up to 20 passionate individuals to become Diaspora Climate Champions and inspire change within their communities. As a Diaspora Climate Champion, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Raise awareness about climate change and its impacts within your community.
  • Advocate for climate action policies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote sustainable development in your home country.
  • Connect with fellow diaspora members and share knowledge and experiences.

What IOM offers

Being a Diaspora Climate Champion is a voluntary role. However, IOM will be covering transport costs to the workshop venue and a light lunch will be provided for both days.

The workshop will be an enriching experience that will equip diaspora members with transferrable skills and tools to lead and contribute to climate action initiatives. The workshop will also offer an opportunity for peer-learning and networking with a wide range of professionals interested in climate change and sustainability.

The Diaspora Climate Champions will effectively become ambassadors of climate action in their communities and will be engaged as key stakeholders throughout the D4C project activities and events.

Selected Diaspora Climate Champions may also have the opportunity to attend IOM’s expense-covered 2-day national dialogues in Moldova, Jamaica, Ghana, and Bangladesh.

What is IOM looking for?

  • UK-based Bangladeshi, Ghanaian, Jamaican, or Moldovan diaspora, of age above 18.
  • Interest, experience, and/or expertise in climate change/sustainability-related topics.
  • Availability to attend a 2-day in-person workshop at IOM UK offices in London, on 11 and 18 of May (TBC) (2 consecutive Saturdays).
  • Willing to be named, filmed, and photographed.
  • Interest in initiating concrete change in your community in the UK and heritage country.
