Call for Nominations: UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education 2024

On this International Women’s Day, UNESCO is thrilled to announce the opening of nominations for the prestigious 2024 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. This esteemed prize recognizes and celebrates the remarkable efforts of individuals and organizations in advancing girls’ and women’s education, with each laureate receiving an annual award of US$ 50,000.

Despite the strides made in recent years, 122 million girls globally still lack access to education, and a significant portion of illiterate adults are women. This underscores the urgent need for continued advocacy and action to ensure gender equality in education.

At the heart of this initiative lies the transformative power of education. Countries around the world have pledged to prioritize gender equality in their education plans, emphasizing inclusive learning environments and support for the most marginalized populations.

Are you driving change in girls’ and women’s education? This is your chance to shine!

Who Can Nominate? Governments of UNESCO Member States or Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO are eligible to nominate up to three individuals, institutions, or organizations demonstrating outstanding contributions to girls’ and women’s education.

What Are the Criteria? Nominees must meet specific eligibility and selection criteria, including having projects that have been operational for at least two years and demonstrate potential for scalability and impact. An independent International Jury will evaluate nominations based on these criteria.

When Is the Deadline? Submissions must be made by May 24, 2024 (midnight, Paris time).

How to Nominate? Nominations should be submitted in English or French through an online platform accessible to National Commissions for UNESCO/Permanent Delegations to UNESCO and NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2024 laureates, which will coincide with the International Day of the Girl celebrations around October 11, 2024.
