If you’re a passionate youth advocate with lived experience as a refugee, internally displaced person (IDP), asylum seeker, or member of a host community, this opportunity is for you. Join a global network of youth leaders dedicated to shaping refugee education policymaking and programming.

About Refugee Education Council (REC)

The REC is an advisory body comprising refugee and displaced youth advocates. Supported by Global Affairs Canada and hosted by World Vision Canada in collaboration with the Canadian International Education Policy Working Group (CIEPWG), REC provides strategic advice and engages with decision-makers and civil society organizations worldwide to enhance access to quality education for refugees and displaced individuals.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the REC membership:

  • Applicants must be youth under the age of 30.
  • They must identify as a refugee, internally displaced person, asylum seeker, or member of a host community.
  • Preference will be given to girls/women, LGBTQI+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.

Additional Considerations

Successful applicants are expected to:

  • Demonstrate leadership experience within their communities.
  • Possess a strong commitment to improving access to quality education for refugee and displaced children and youth.
  • Commit to actively participating in bi-weekly virtual 90-minute meetings, as well as additional meetings, planning sessions, projects, events, and conferences as required.
  • Be comfortable with public sharing of their name, age, and image.

Application Process

Eligible candidates interested in joining the Refugee Education Council are invited to submit an expression of interest by 11:59 PM ET on May 3, 2024.
