Program Overview

NYC Civic Corps is a full-time national service program administered through NYC Service. Members are placed in City agencies and nonprofit organizations throughout New York City where they support initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods, improve access to essential services, and build stronger communities.

The 2026–2027 cohort will serve from:

September 2026 – June 2027

Throughout the program, members work approximately 35 hours per week, combining practical service with professional development and leadership training.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements before joining the program.

You must:

  1. Be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent before the program begins.
  3. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
  4. Pass the required National Service Criminal History Check.
  5. Be available to serve full-time (35 hours per week) from September 2026 through June 2027.

The application process consists of four steps.

Step 1: Apply

  • Select three preferred opportunities.
  • Submit your application.

Step 2: Interview

  • Complete an interview with NYC Service.
  • Interview with prospective host organizations.

Step 3: Receive an Offer

  • Accept your preferred placement.
  • Complete onboarding requirements.

Step 4: Begin Service
