Africa Matters Initiative: Her Environment, Her Future 2024

What is Africa Matters Initiative (AMI)? AMI is a youth-led organization dedicated to empowering and upskilling young Africans. Our mission is to transform communities and the African narrative through leadership, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy.

About the Program: Her Environment, Her Future is a four-month, non-residential youth leadership and virtual advocacy program. It is designed for young women across Africa who are committed to combating climate change. The program emphasizes leadership, personal development, climate education, policy engagement, advocacy, green and social entrepreneurship, and effective communication.

Program Highlights: Participants will gain:

  • Green and social entrepreneurship insights

At the program’s conclusion, participants will:

  • Receive certificates of participation
  • Build a robust network of young women leaders
  • Acquire a deeper understanding of climate-focused justice and advocacy
  • Gain skills to support and transfer knowledge within their communities

Eligibility: For the 2024 cohort, we seek 20 young women and girls aged 16-29 from the following countries:

  • Malawi
  • Ghana
  • Egypt
  • Kenya
  • South Africa
  • Nigeria
  • Zimbabwe
  • Madagascar
  • Tunisia
  • Sierra Leone

Key Dates:

  • Application Open: Wednesday, 19 June 2024, 12:00 pm CAT
  • Application Close: Sunday, 14 July 2024, 11:59 pm CAT
  • Application Duration: Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour
  • Selection Announcement: Week of 29 July 2024
  • Program Start: Week of 12 August 2024
  • Program End: Week of 9 December 2024
