Leadership in Government Fellowship (Fully Funded)

Are you a former senior-level government official or staff member passionate about advancing social change? The Open Society-U.S. has an exciting opportunity for you!

About the Fellowship Program: Established in 2016, the Leadership in Government Fellowships Program aims to support individuals who have recently left public service after playing a significant role in advancing social change within the United States government. This includes leaders at the city, county, tribal, state, and federal levels.

Who We’re Looking For: Ideal candidates are public servants who have completed their government service within the last two years, especially those who served in a chief executive or senior management role. We encourage applicants from all political backgrounds who can challenge conventional thinking about social change.

Fellowship Details:

  • Stipend: Fellows will receive a stipend ranging from $110,000 to $150,000 based on the percentage of time committed to their projects.
  • Project Duration: Projects can be either 12 or 18 months long.

Qualities We Seek: Successful applicants will:

  1. Have a keen interest in reflecting on their government service.
  2. Be passionate about solving problems and implementing policy.
  3. Desire to advance ideas beyond their former jurisdictions.
  4. Want to inject their work into the public dialogue.

  • Register and provide basic contact information.
  • Answer questions about your government experience.
  • Submit a proposal of ten questions along with your resume.
