Are you eager to gain firsthand experience of how the Council and the Council of the European Union operate? The Council offers approximately 100 paid traineeship positions each year, providing an opportunity to delve into the inner workings of these institutions.

Traineeship Programmes

The Council presents two traineeship periods annually:

  • First Period: 16th February to 15th July
  • Second Period: 1st September to 31st January

Additionally, the Council extends traineeship opportunities for students of national administration schools.

Who Can Apply

If you’re wondering whether you qualify, here’s what you need to know:

  • Nationality: EU citizenship is a must.
  • Education: For the main programme, a university degree is required. However, for the positive action programme, a minimum of being a third-year university/college student is necessary.
  • Profile: Diversity is our strength. We welcome candidates from various backgrounds as we offer traineeships across different domains such as policy, administration, communication, IT, and more.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English or French (at least level C1) and familiarity with at least two EU official languages are essential.
  • Experience: No prior training (paid or unpaid) or employment exceeding six weeks at an EU institution, body, agency, or office.
  • Age: There are no age restrictions.
  • Candidates with Disabilities: Those applying for the positive action programme must provide a certificate confirming their disability.

  • Monthly Allowance: €60 for use in the Council’s restaurants

How to Apply

Applications are accepted twice a year:

  • February Intake: Traineeships commence in September.
  • September Intake: Traineeships start in February of the following year.
