The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has announced three exciting career opportunities under its Career Path Development for Employment (CPD4E) Project, providing experienced professionals with the chance to contribute to South Africa’s employment creation and Just Energy Transition agenda.

Implemented in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the CPD4E project focuses on improving employment opportunities for young South Africans by strengthening skills development, supporting enterprise growth, and preparing the workforce for the country’s transition to a decarbonized economy.

The project is currently recruiting qualified candidates for three technical positions that will contribute to employment promotion, skills development, entrepreneurship, and labour market readiness across South Africa.

Interested applicants should note that each vacancy has its own application deadline ranging from 15 July 2026 to 17 July 2026.

About the Career Path Development for Employment (CPD4E) Project

The Career Path Development for Employment (CPD4E) Project is designed to improve the employment prospects of young people in South Africa by aligning education, skills development, and labour market needs within a rapidly changing economy.

Implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the programme supports South Africa’s transition toward a greener, more sustainable economy while creating inclusive employment opportunities.

The project focuses on:

  • Improving youth employability.
  • Supporting employment-oriented private sector development.
  • Enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
  • Promoting entrepreneurship and Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).
  • Supporting the Just Energy Transition through skills development.
  • Strengthening labour market readiness.

Available Positions

1. Senior Technical Advisor: SMME Development and Support (Output 2)

This position will focus on promoting employment through enterprise development by supporting small businesses and encouraging private sector growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting employment-oriented private sector development.
  • Promoting entrepreneurship and SMME growth.
  • Developing initiatives that create employment opportunities.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to strengthen business ecosystems.
  • Supporting sustainable economic development initiatives.

2. Senior Technical Advisor: Employment Support through Skills Development (Outputs 3 & 4)

This role supports skills development initiatives aimed at improving employment outcomes across South Africa.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support programme development within the TVET sector.
  • Assist with implementation of new skills programmes.
  • Contribute to the Team Europe Initiative focusing on the battery value chain.
  • Strengthen employment pathways through skills development.
  • Collaborate with education and training stakeholders.

3. Technical Advisor: JET-Skills (Seconded to the Presidential Climate Commission) 

This position supports South Africa’s Just Energy Transition (JET) agenda by strengthening workforce readiness for the country’s evolving economy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating JET Skills projects.
  • Supporting implementation of the Presidential Climate Commission’s Just Transition agenda.
  • Managing projects related to labour market readiness.
  • Developing employment pathways.
  • Supporting skills development initiatives linked to climate transition priorities.
  • Working closely with government and strategic partners.
