About the PhD Scholarship Position
The PhD Scholarship in Sociology is offered through the Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies within the Department of Sociology.
The doctoral trajectory spans six years and combines:
- Research activities (approximately 70%)
- Teaching responsibilities (approximately 30%)

- Supervising students

Because the program is taught in Dutch, applicants must have strong Dutch language proficiency at the beginning of the appointment.
Scholarship Duration and Funding
The selected candidate will receive:
- A full-time PhD scholarship
- Initial appointment for 12 months
- Extension possibility up to 48 months based on positive evaluation
- Additional extension possibility for 24 months under a different employment status
