About the Internship

Hosted by the GeoEconomics Center, this internship gives young professionals the opportunity to work at the intersection of economics, finance, and foreign policy while supporting research, events, publications, and digital communications.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in:

Description

At the intersection of economics, finance, and foreign policy, the GeoEconomics Center (GeoEcon Center) is a translation hub with the goal of helping shape a better global economic future. Our interns are an integral part of the GeoEconomics Center and actively engage with events, publications, development, and programming strategy. This position will expose successful candidates to all elements of data visualization, event planning, research preparation and publication, and day-to-day administrative tasks including co-management of the program’s social media accounts. In coordination with the Center’s staff, the interns will help design infographics using data visualization and use research skills to contribute to the Center’s newsletters.

The successful candidate will have a passion for the GeoEcon the work, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit. They will value effective communication and a work culture of continual learning. They will be deadline-oriented and demonstrate a strong interest in economics and international affairs through education and/or experience.

This internship is based in our Washington, DC headquarters, requiring a minimum of 4 days (32 hours) per week in the office. Interns will be paid at a rate of $18.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with logistical and administrative duties necessary for GeoEcon Center programming;
  • Assist in the daily production of social media posts across multiple platforms;
  • Assist in the creation of GeoEcon Center data visualizations;
  • Assist in the publication and maintenance of GeoEcon Center’s online products;
  • Assist with the editing and preparation of research briefs and other publications;
  • Collaborate on event planning and organization and assist with day-of-event management;
  • Conduct ad hoc research tasks to support the activities of the GeoEcon Center, including memos/briefings on current events, key stakeholders, and emerging issues;
  • Draft events preparation material, speakers’ briefs, and background information;
  • Draft correspondence and take notes at Council roundtables and strategy sessions for program archives;
  • Track and/or manage GeoEcon Center media mentions, program metrics, and contact lists.

Qualifications

Essential

  • At least a college sophomore in good standing, a graduate student, or a recent graduate student in international economics, finance, public policy, or a relevant discipline;
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills;
  • Strong writing and research skills or demonstrated aptitude;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges using sound judgment;
  • Interest in topics relevant to the GeoEcon Center’s work, e.g., geoeconomics, international trade, fiscal & monetary policy, digital currencies & payment systems, future of the global economic architecture;
  • Eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Highly desired

  • Professional experience in a team environment, working across a range of stakeholders and levels of seniority;
  • Experience with collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data using Excel, a statistical software package, or programming language;
  • Experience with data visualization and/or graphic design tools;
  • Experience with social media management and content production, particularly in professional environments;
  • Experience in event planning and production, particularly in professional environments;
  • Experience with data platforms such as Macrobond, Bloomberg, or national statistical services.
