Who Can Apply?
Chevening enables outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.
There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, but those who are successful tend to have ambition, leadership qualities, and a passion for influencing positive change in their home countries.
You are encouraged to apply if you meet our eligibility criteria and other requirements. Your gender, age (there is no upper age limit), sexual orientation, religion, marriage or parenthood status, caste, class, or other attributes do not matter to us. What matters is your ability to submit a thoughtful application that demonstrates you are capable of excelling on an intense master’s course in the UK, and that you have a clear vision for your future.

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
- Have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours).
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme.
- Apply to three different and eligible UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the references and education documents deadline listed on the application timeline.

Application Timeline
The selection process for Chevening Scholarships is thorough and spans over eight months, from the application deadline to the final selection. Below is a brief overview of the key dates and steps for applicants applying for the 2027–2028 Chevening Scholarship:

- 5 August 2026 (11:00 UTC) – Applications Open
Applications open at 11:00 UTC. Before applying, read the application guidance and submit your application through your country or territory’s dedicated application page. Be sure to check what 11:00 UTC corresponds to in your local time zone. - 6 October 2026 (11:00 UTC) – Applications Close
The application deadline is 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. After this time, the online application system will no longer accept submissions. - From October 2026 – Eligibility Screening
All applications are reviewed to ensure they meet Chevening’s eligibility requirements. - Mid-October 2026 – January 2027 – Application Assessments
Eligible applications are assessed by independent reading committees. - Mid-February 2027 – Interview Shortlisting
British embassies and high commissions notify shortlisted candidates and invite them to interview. - March – April 2027 – Interviews
Interviews take place at British embassies and high commissions worldwide. Shortlisted candidates must upload all required documents—including photo ID, degree certificate, and reference letters—at least seven working days before their interview. To prepare for your interview, please read our interview guidance. - Mid-June 2027 – Results Announced
Successful candidates are informed of the outcome of their interviews from mid-June 2027. - 8 July 2027 (17:00 BST) – University Offer Deadline
Successful applicants must submit at least one unconditional offer from a UK university by 17:00 BST (UK time) on 8 July 2027. - September/October 2027 – Studies Begin in the UK
Chevening Scholars commence their studies at UK universities and join the prestigious global Chevening alumni network.
