Youth Call for Embedding Environmental Justice in Zero-Waste Projects: Apply Now!

The UMI Fund invites young climate leaders and youth-led organizations to apply for the Youth for Zero-Waste grant. This grant supports innovative zero-waste projects that emphasize environmental justice and community-driven solutions.

Why Focus on Environmental Justice?

As we move towards a zero-waste world, it’s crucial that this transition is equitable. The UMI Fund seeks to back projects that center communities, challenge governments and corporations, and drive meaningful change in waste management practices.

Who Can Apply?

We’re looking for young leaders aged 18-34 with a clear, actionable project idea for an environmentally just transition to zero waste. Your project should be ready for implementation between December 2024 and August 2025, with a timeline of 3-9 months. Applicants should have identified key stakeholders, set clear goals, and have a plan to measure impact.

What Projects Will We Fund?

We are interested in supporting creative zero-waste projects that:

– Shift public narratives around waste management.
– Advocate for zero-waste solutions and counter false narratives like “waste to energy.”
– Highlight the benefits of zero-waste, such as impacts on climate, health, and the economy.

Examples of activities we fund include:

– Developing and implementing a project plan.
– Engaging key audiences or conducting research to understand challenges.
– Training community members or upskilling individuals.
– Executing impactful campaign tactics.

Our Focus on Environmental Justice

We prioritize projects that respect planetary boundaries, support waste workers, build on local knowledge, and hold polluters accountable. We will especially prioritize projects from the global South.

Funding Details

Grants of up to £7,000 GBP are available, depending on your project’s stage.

Submit your application by Sunday, September 29, 2024 [23:59 MIDNIGHT CET]. Grants will be distributed by late 2024 or early 2025, with projects to be implemented between December 2024 and August 2025.
