About the Young Climate Leaders of Color (YCLC) Fund
As part of the People’s Climate Innovation Center, the Young Climate Leaders of Color (YCLC) Fund aims to provide financial support to young BIPOC climate leaders who are actively working towards racial and environmental justice in their communities.
Eligibility:
The YCLC Fund provides financial awards to:
- Young BIPOC climate leaders
- Between the ages of 18 and 32
- Based and implement their project in one of the following places: the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Identify themselves as Black, African, Afro-Latinx, Afro-Indigenous, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color
- Advocate for and implementing projects that promote racial and environmental justice within their communities.
Benefits
The fund covers a range of expenses,
- including training,
- workshops,
- equipment purchases, and more.
The focus is on centering local movements and initiatives that prioritize community-driven approaches to addressing climate change.
Funding Levels:
The YCLC Fund offers four funding levels to support projects at various stages of development:
- $2,000: Seed grants for projects in the idea phase
- $6,000: Support for projects beyond the idea phase but needing to scale and grow
- $8,000: Funding for more established projects looking to expand reach and impact
- $10,000: Support for well-established projects aiming to deepen impact and scalability

After an internal review period, awards will be announced in mid-November, with funds disbursed in December. Awardee orientation and peer cyphers will take place in late November and December 2024, with the reflection project due by December 2025.
