Job Title: CYHN Coordinator

  • Duration: Twelve (12) months
  • Location: Remote
  • Period: 01 July 2024 – 01 July 2025
  • Total Fees: GBP 6000, paid in quarterly instalments of GBP 1500

Background

The Commonwealth Secretariat, the principal intergovernmental organization of the Commonwealth, implements the collective decisions of its 56 member governments. The Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) collaborates with member governments, youth leaders, and professionals to empower young people, focusing on areas of major political, economic, and social importance.

The Commonwealth Youth Health Network (CYHN), launched in 2016, is a platform for young people to advocate and engage on global health issues. The CYHN partners with the Commonwealth Secretariat and regional organizations to achieve health-related development goals, particularly SDG 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.

Objectives of CYHN

  • Represent and amplify the voice of young people on health matters within the Commonwealth.
  • Promote intra-Commonwealth exchange and global advocacy for quality healthcare.
  • Strengthen the role of youth-led organizations in health advocacy and action.
  • Participate in the development and review of health-related policies to ensure youth views are represented.
  • Support the implementation of commitments made at Commonwealth Health Ministers Meetings.

Vision: To be the leading youth voice in the Commonwealth, promoting advocacy and best practices in health to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.

Mission: To advocate, educate, and demonstrate the power of good health to policymakers and young people across the Commonwealth.

Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities

The CYHN Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate the management and logistical arrangements of the network.
  • Enhance youth participation in health policy discussions and meetings.
  • Strengthen the global and regional presence of the network through communication and capacity building.
  • Work closely with the CYHN Chair to engage in high-level meetings.
  • Identify new funding and partnership opportunities.
  • Support communication and collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat-Health team and other stakeholders.
  • Increase visibility, outreach, inclusion, and membership of CYHN.
  • Maintain regular communication with Commonwealth Secretariat staff.

Deliverables

Monthly deliverables include:

  1. Monitoring plan tracking CYHN Strategy progress.
  2. Managing the Network’s schedule and communications.
  3. Acting as a liaison between the Chair and stakeholders.
  4. Preparing meeting agendas, briefing materials, and presentations.
  5. Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  6. Managing projects and initiatives on behalf of the Chair.
  7. Building relationships with key stakeholders.
  8. Problem-solving and finding creative solutions.
  9. Reporting on media content, stakeholder engagement, social media, and more.
  10. Updating contact lists and coordinating teleconferences.
  11. Producing position papers and other necessary materials.

Timelines & Remuneration

  • Contract Period: 1 July 2024 – 1 July 2025
  • Weekly Commitment: Approximately 18 hours
  • Total Fees: GBP 6000, paid in quarterly instalments of GBP 1500

Reporting and Key Accountabilities

The CYHN Coordinator will report to Health Adviser Janneth Mghamba and liaise with Assistant Health Officer Esther Njinembo. The Youth Team of the Social Policy Development Section will coordinate work-related matters and provide support where necessary.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be aged between 18 to 29 years at the time of application.
  • Be a citizen of a Commonwealth member country.
  • Have a strong commitment to CYHN’s vision and mission.
  • Have a proven track record in health-related projects and programmes.

Selection Process and Evaluation Weightings

Applications will be shortlisted based on demonstrated skills and attributes. The evaluation weightings are:

  • Price Weightings: 10%
  • Evaluation Weightings: 90%

Evaluation criteria include administrative skills, project management, networking, communication, professional expertise, respect for diversity, and experience in health-related matters.
