The Migration Policy Institute Europe (MPI Europe), established in Brussels in 2011, is an independent, nonprofit research institute dedicated to advancing the understanding of migration in Europe and promoting effective policy development. MPI Europe offers rigorous research and practical policy design to both governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders to enhance the management of immigration, immigrant integration, and asylum systems. This support aims to achieve positive outcomes for newcomers, immigrant families, and host communities in Europe.

Internship Cycles:

  • Fall: September through end of February
  • Spring: March through August

Research Internships – Apply by July 1

MPI Europe is seeking outstanding candidates for two full-time, in-person research internships in Brussels starting in September. These six-month internships offer a unique chance to gain deep knowledge and hands-on research experience in various policy areas, including EU migration and asylum systems, labor migration, and immigrant integration. Interns will work closely with policy analysts and senior management and have the opportunity to organize events to expand their professional networks. Only candidates authorized to work in Belgium will be considered. Applications are due by July 1.

Responsibilities:

  • Support MPI Europe team, including senior management
  • Contribute to research efforts and draft papers
  • Prepare literature summaries
  • Assist in disseminating publications
  • Provide administrative support for events
  • Attend and summarize relevant events
  • Perform administrative tasks, including assisting senior management

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (currently enrolled master’s or PhD students available full-time are also eligible)
  • Demonstrated interest in migration, asylum, or integration
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, multitask effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in languages other than English
  • Experience with Microsoft Access
  • Experience with quantitative, qualitative, or policy research

Details and Conditions:

  • Full-time, in-office (38 hours/week), with potential for telework twice a week after two months
  • Location: Rue de la Loi, 155 – 1040 – Etterbeek
  • Compensation: €1310.15 per month with lunch vouchers (€8 per workday)
  • No relocation expenses covered
  • Only applicants eligible to work in Belgium will be considered
