About ICRC: At ICRC, we’re dedicated to providing protection and assistance to those affected by conflict and armed violence worldwide. Our mission is rooted in neutrality and independence, guided by the principles of international humanitarian law. With a mandate derived from the Geneva Conventions of 1949, we collaborate closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to ensure an effective humanitarian response in crisis situations.

Purpose: Established in response to the ICRC Rules on Personal Data Protection, the Data Protection Office oversees the implementation of these rules and champions individual data rights protection. Now, we’re seeking enthusiastic individuals to join us on a 6-month traineeship, commencing in mid-May 2024, to contribute to our mission.

Responsibilities: As a trainee within the Data Protection Office, you’ll play a vital role in enhancing our data protection practices across the organization. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing guidance to ICRC Divisions on developing and executing action plans for Data Protection Rule adherence.
  • Offering insights on integrating Data Protection Rules within ICRC’s operations.
  • Coordinating the deployment of a Data Protection E-Learning module.
  • Conducting research and analysis on legal and policy issues, particularly in Data Protection/Privacy law.
  • Reviewing legal and policy documents to ensure alignment with data protection standards.
  • Assisting in meeting organization and report writing.
  • Providing essential administrative support to the Data Protection Office.

Education and Skills: We’re looking for candidates with:

  • A University Degree (Master’s degree in law or equivalent preferred).
  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of Data Protection/Privacy Law.
  • Familiarity with IT/data security issues (an asset).
  • Interest in humanitarian concerns and international relations.
  • Solid comprehension of ICRC’s mandate and operational approach.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required, with knowledge of French considered advantageous.
