Who can apply?

Prospective candidates must:

  • Hold or anticipate receiving a university Master’s degree or equivalent in natural sciences, computer sciences, or engineering.
  • Demonstrate an excellent track record and proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Be willing to undertake full-time PhD studies, typically lasting around 4 years.
  • Both national and international (non-EU) students are eligible for funded positions.

What does the job entail?

As a selected candidate, you’ll dive into a vibrant life science research community at LSZ. The PhD program offers 80-100 projects per recruitment round, giving you a wide array of options to explore. The selection process includes application assessments and online interviews, with in-person visits for the final round. LSZ Graduate School provides financial support, including travel reimbursement and accommodation in Zurich for in-person visits.

How to apply?

Applications must be submitted online via the LSZ Graduate School’s application tool. Remember, no applications sent by email will be accepted. Make sure you have your Master’s degree or equivalent ready, with the option to apply if you’ll receive it within 6-9 months after the application deadline. Only PDF files are allowed for submission.

Important Dates:

  • Main Round Deadlines: May 1st (23:59 CEST) and November 1st (23:59 CET)
  • Interview Dates: June and July 2024 for the May deadline, and December 2024 and January 2025 for the November deadline.

Admission Procedure:

Besides meeting formal admission requirements, candidates must secure approval from a supervisor for their planned doctoral thesis and apply to the University of Zurich Admissions Office. Successful candidates will receive admission decisions from the University of Zurich Admissions Office, allowing them to kickstart their doctoral studies.
