The Center for Global Development (CGD), an independent, non-partisan policy research organization based in Washington, DC, and London, UK, is seeking highly qualified candidates for the roles of Fellows or Senior Fellows. These positions are ideal for experienced professionals eager to lead cutting-edge research and influence global policy on critical issues such as global health, sustainable development finance, education, and climate change.

About CGD

CGD focuses on the policy intersections between low- and middle-income countries and the global entities—governments, institutions, and corporations—that can partner in driving inclusive development. Through rigorous empirical research and active engagement with the policy community, CGD aims to deliver greater progress in global development.

Positions Available

CGD is hiring Fellows or Senior Fellows in both Washington, DC, and London to lead research in the following areas:

  • Global Health Policy: Addressing global health challenges, including pandemic preparedness, antimicrobial resistance, and the interplay between climate and health.
  • Sustainable Development Finance: Expanding climate finance pathways, building sustainable finance markets, and promoting reforms of financial institutions.
  • Education and Child Well-Being: Improving children’s education and well-being, addressing neglected issues like violence against children and lead poisoning.
  • Sustainable Agriculture: Developing innovative solutions for climate-resilient crop innovation and sustainable agriculture practices.
  • Climate Change: Conducting research on cost-effective adaptation and mitigation strategies in low- and middle-income countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead research projects that inform global development policies.
  • Engage in policy outreach through speaking engagements, blogging, and high-level interactions with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in expert group consultations and working groups.
  • Publish research findings through blogs, papers, policy briefs, and commentaries.
  • Supervise and mentor research assistants and coordinators.
  • Contribute to CGD’s initiatives around diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

Fellow:

  • At least a master’s degree in economics, international development, public policy, or a related field.
  • A recent record of substantive research or policy analysis.
  • Experience in the development sector with demonstrated policy influence.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Senior Fellow:

  • Preferably a doctoral degree in economics or a related field (or equivalent research track record).
  • Extensive experience in international economics, development, or related fields with a strong publication record.
  • Proven ability to engage with policymakers and translate research into policy.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Successful track record in securing grant funding is a plus.

Salary and Benefits

UK Candidates:

  • Fellow Salary Range: £80,325 – £95,812 per annum
  • Senior Fellow Salary Range: £111,825 – £136,237 per annum
  • The position is hybrid, requiring at least two days per week in the office (SW1, London).

US Candidates:

  • Fellow Salary: $130,000 – $150,000 per annum
  • Senior Fellow Salary: $180,000 – $190,000 per annum
  • The position is hybrid, requiring at least two days per week in the office. Candidates must declare a primary residence in DC, Maryland, or Virginia.
