What is the GEDA Small Grants Program?

The Gender and Environment Data Alliance (GEDA) is an international initiative dedicated to improving the availability, accessibility, understanding, and use of high-quality data at the intersection of gender equality and environmental sustainability.

GEDA works to:

• Improve access to gender and environmental data.
• Identify important knowledge gaps.
• Strengthen evidence-based climate and environmental policymaking.
• Promote gender-just approaches to environmental governance.
• Support locally led and feminist research methodologies.
• Elevate underrepresented voices in climate and environmental decision-making.

Through the 2026–2027 Small Grants Program, GEDA aims to support organizations that can generate meaningful knowledge and practical solutions for climate and environmental challenges affecting diverse communities worldwide.

Funding Available

For the 2026–2027 funding cycle, GEDA will award at least eight (8) grants.

Each selected organization will receive:

• Funding between USD $10,000 and USD $15,000
• Grant disbursement beginning in September/October 2026
• Project implementation period of up to one year
• Activities concluding by October 2027

The funding is intended to directly support projects involving gender-environment data production, research, analysis, dissemination, advocacy, and capacity development.

GEDA Small Grants Program Objectives

The grants are designed to contribute to two major objectives:

What Types of Projects Will Be Supported?

While projects covering any gender-environment topic are welcome, GEDA has identified several priority areas connected to the recently adopted Belém Gender Action Plan (GAP) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Priority themes include:

• Health in the context of gender and climate change
• Gender-based violence linked to climate change
• Care work and climate change

However, projects outside these themes remain fully eligible for funding.

GEDA Data Fellowship

Every funded organization will have the opportunity to nominate up to two individuals to participate in the prestigious GEDA Data Fellowship.

The fellowship is delivered by Data4Change and includes:

• Six months of structured learning
• Professional mentorship
• Peer learning opportunities
• Practical training in data analysis
• Communication skills development
• Audience-specific storytelling
• Development of advocacy materials

The fellowship is intended to strengthen each organization’s ability to transform research into impactful communication that supports policy change and advocacy goals.

Regional Focus

The 2026–2027 funding round has a significant emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region.

Out of the eight grants:

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Be a GEDA Member, Core Partner, or Data Advisory Group (DAG) member.
• Organizations in the Indo-Pacific that are not currently GEDA members may also apply and will be invited to join GEDA if selected.
• DAG members may partner with organizations that are not currently GEDA members.
• Steering Committee members may apply but must recuse themselves from the selection process.
• Preference will be given to organizations or consultancy firms based in the Global South.
• Projects implemented at the local or national level are strongly encouraged.

Expectations for Successful Grantees

Organizations selected for funding will be expected to:

• Participate in informal bi-monthly check-in meetings with the GEDA Secretariat.
• Submit a brief narrative report at the end of the project.
• Submit a basic financial report upon project completion.
• Complete reporting by October 2027 using templates provided by GEDA.
