The African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) has officially opened applications for the ACET Youth Policy Lab (AYPL) 2026, a unique continent-wide policy innovation challenge designed to place young Africans at the center of policymaking, innovation, and economic transformation.

Under the theme, “From Coordination to Commercialization: Youth, Innovation & Growth,” the 2026 edition invites ambitious young Africans to step into the role of policymakers and tackle some of Africa’s most pressing development challenges through evidence-based policy design, collaboration, mentorship, and leadership development.

The ACET Youth Policy Lab is much more than a competition. It is an immersive learning experience that combines the excitement of a hackathon with the rigor of real-world policy development, equipping participants with practical skills in governance, innovation, leadership, and policy analysis.

For young Africans who aspire to influence public policy, drive innovation, and contribute to sustainable development across the continent, this opportunity offers a powerful platform to learn, collaborate, and create impact.

What is the ACET Youth Policy Lab?

The ACET Youth Policy Lab is a simulation-based policy innovation platform that empowers young Africans to engage directly with policymaking processes.

Participants are placed within a fictional institution known as the National Youth Transformation Authority (NYTA), where they assume the role of decision-makers responsible for developing solutions to real-world development challenges facing African countries.

The program is specifically designed to:

  • Strengthen youth participation in policymaking
  • Develop policy analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Promote innovation-driven development solutions
  • Enhance leadership capabilities
  • Foster collaboration among young Africans
  • Increase youth representation in governance spaces

Unlike traditional competitions, participants are challenged to think critically about policy trade-offs, institutional constraints, and implementation realities.

Theme for 2026: From Coordination to Commercialization – Youth, Innovation & Growth

The 2026 Youth Policy Lab focuses on one of Africa’s most important development priorities: transforming innovative ideas into sustainable economic growth opportunities.

Participants will explore how effective policy coordination, innovation ecosystems, and commercialization strategies can create jobs, strengthen industries, and accelerate Africa’s economic transformation.

The theme encourages young leaders to design practical solutions that support inclusive growth while addressing systemic barriers that often limit innovation and entrepreneurship across the continent.
