Spread the love

The Catalytic Grant Fund Application Cycle 2026/2027, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the International Pathogen Surveillance Network (IPSN), represents a powerful funding opportunity for organizations committed to strengthening global health systems. This initiative is designed to accelerate innovation in pathogen surveillance, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where early detection and response systems are most critical.

With funding ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, this grant supports impactful, short-term projects that generate evidence, promote research, and contribute to scalable solutions in disease surveillance.

What is the Catalytic Grant Fund?

The Catalytic Grant Fund is a strategic initiative hosted by the United Nations Foundation on behalf of IPSN. It aims to:

  • Support innovative pilot projects in pathogen surveillance
  • Strengthen genomic and environmental monitoring systems
  • Build evidence for scaling up successful interventions
  • Promote knowledge sharing and global collaboration

The fund is backed by leading global philanthropic organizations, including:

  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Rockefeller Foundation
  • Wellcome Trust
  • Institute of Philanthropy

Key Focus Areas (Technical Tracks)

Applicants must submit proposals under one of the following two tracks:

  1. Pathogen Genomic Surveillance
    • Leveraging genomic technologies to detect and monitor pathogens
    • Enhancing sequencing capacity and data analysis
  2. Wastewater and Environmental Surveillance
