The Parliamentary Internship for the Environment (PIE) 2026–2027 cohort is now accepting applications from passionate young leaders eager to make a difference in climate policy, sustainability, and environmental governance. About the Parliamentary Internship for the Environment (PIE)

Launched in 2018, the PIE program is designed to equip emerging leaders with the skills, networks, and knowledge needed to drive environmental change. Now entering its ninth year, the program has become a respected pathway into public policy, advocacy, and leadership roles.

Successful applicants will:

• Work full-time in the office of a Canadian Member of Parliament (MP)
• Contribute to environmental and sustainability-related policy work
• Participate in leadership development programming
• Engage with experts across government, academia, and civil society

Program Duration and Benefits

Duration

• Start Date: October 2026
• End Date: June 2027
• Total Length: Approximately 8–10 months

Financial Support

• Monthly stipend of $3,200
• Additional financial support may be available for:
  • Housing
  • Relocation

Work Structure

• Full-time commitment (37.5–40 hours per week)
• Combination of:
  • Parliamentary office work
  • Weekly program sessions (seminars, mentorship, workshops)

What Interns Will Do

Interns gain direct exposure to the inner workings of Parliament and contribute meaningfully to environmental policymaking.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft briefing notes for parliamentary committees
• Conduct policy and legislative research
• Assist with Private Member’s bills
• Communicate with constituents
• Support MPs during stakeholder meetings

Specialized Streams

1. Indigenous Internship Stream

• Designed for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit applicants
• Focuses on reducing systemic barriers in Parliament
• Includes tailored support structures
• Developed in collaboration with Indigenous-led consultants

2. Food Systems & Sustainable Agriculture (FSSA) Stream

• For applicants interested in agriculture and food systems
• Emphasis on environmental leadership in rural communities
• Priority given to candidates from:
  • Alberta
  • Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements by October 1, 2026:

• Be 18–30 years old
• Be available for full-time work from October 2026 to June 2027
• Be legally eligible to work in Canada
