Youth Leadership Academy Cambodia 2026: Build Feminist Leadership Skills and Drive Social Change
The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) Cambodia 2026 is a year-long leadership programme designed to empower young women with the skills, confidence, and networks needed to challenge gender inequality and create meaningful change in their communities. Supported by UN Women Cambodia, this initiative provides a safe and inclusive space for emerging leaders to develop transformative leadership and critical thinking abilities.
About the Program
The Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) is a unique programme co-created by Cambodian women leaders from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about advancing gender equality. It is rooted in lived experiences and designed to respond to the real challenges young women face in accessing leadership opportunities.
The programme runs over 8–10 months and combines four in-person workshops with mentorship and action-based learning. Participants engage in a structured journey that emphasizes personal growth, collaborative learning, and real-world application of feminist leadership principles.
Through this blended approach, participants are not only introduced to leadership concepts but are also supported in applying them in their daily lives, families, and communities. The programme prioritizes creating a safe, supportive environment where young women can express themselves, build confidence, and develop their voices.
Why This Opportunity Matters
Across many communities, young women—particularly those from marginalized backgrounds—face barriers to leadership development, networking opportunities, and access to platforms where their voices can be heard. The Youth Leadership Academy addresses these challenges by intentionally focusing on inclusion and equity.
By centering feminist leadership, the programme encourages participants to question societal norms, reflect critically on gender dynamics, and take action to address inequalities. This is particularly important in contexts where discussions around gender and social justice may be limited or inaccessible.
The programme also emphasizes community impact. Rather than focusing solely on individual development, YLA supports participants in becoming change-makers who can influence their environments and contribute to broader social transformation.
What Participants Will Gain
Participants in the Youth Leadership Academy gain a wide range of personal and professional benefits. They develop strong leadership and critical thinking skills that enable them to navigate complex social issues and advocate for change.
The programme helps participants build confidence and communication skills, empowering them to express their ideas clearly and engage in meaningful discussions. Through mentorship and peer learning, participants also expand their networks, connecting with like-minded individuals and experienced leaders.
A key component of the programme is action learning, where participants apply their knowledge to real-life situations. This hands-on approach strengthens their ability to translate ideas into practical solutions and initiatives within their communities.
Additionally, participants gain a deeper understanding of gender equality and feminist leadership, equipping them with the tools to challenge inequality and promote inclusive practices in various aspects of their lives.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to young women aged 17 to 25 years old who are passionate about gender equality and social change. It is particularly aimed at individuals who have had limited access to leadership programmes or networks.
Young women from underrepresented groups, including those with disabilities or from ethnic minority communities, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in issues affecting women and girls, as well as a willingness to engage in feminist leadership practices.
Participants must be available to fully commit to the programme over its duration, including attending all workshops and actively participating in mentorship and action learning activities.
