Organizations working to build healthier, more sustainable food systems can now apply for the Thrive Grant 2026. This funding opportunity supports impactful initiatives outside the United States that promote plant-based foods, improve access to nutritious meals, and accelerate alternatives to industrial animal agriculture.

Eligible organizations can receive between $10,000 and $30,000 USD to scale projects that create lasting change in communities around the world.

What is the Thrive Grant?

The Thrive Grant is an international funding program designed for organizations with a proven track record of success. It supports mission-driven groups advancing food system transformation through innovation, education, advocacy, and community-based solutions.

The grant is especially suited for mid-size or larger organizations ready to expand their reach and deepen their impact.

Grant Value

Successful applicants may receive:

  • Minimum Funding: $10,000 USD
  • Maximum Funding: $30,000 USD

Funding amounts depend on the quality, feasibility, and impact potential of the proposal.

Application Deadlines

The Thrive Grant operates on multiple funding rounds each year. Applications close at 11:59 PM GMT on the following dates:

  • 1 June 2026 (Next Upcoming Deadline)
  • 1 September 2026
  • 1 December 2026
  • 1 March 2027

Applicants can choose the nearest available round that best fits their project timeline.

Response Time

Applicants should expect a response within up to 8 weeks after the application deadline.

Who Can Apply?

Organizations may be eligible if they meet the following requirements:

  • Based outside the United States
  • Not an international chapter of a US-based organization
  • Nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Strong reputation within their community and stakeholder network
  • Clear track record of successful projects
  • Proposal aligns with plant-based food systems or alternatives to industrial animal agriculture
  • Meets Thrive Philanthropy’s safespace policy

Currently, organizations with annual budgets under $500,000 USD are being prioritized.

Priority Areas for Funding

Thrive Grant welcomes proposals focused on the following areas:

1. Alternatives to Industrial Animal Agriculture

Projects that reduce dependence on factory farming and introduce sustainable solutions.

2. Plant-Rich Food Systems

Initiatives that encourage healthier food environments through plant-based options.

3. Access to Nutritious Plant-Based Foods

Programs that improve affordability, availability, and awareness of healthy plant-based nutrition.

Special Note for Africa-Based Applicants

Due to a high number of proposals from Africa, first-time Africa-based applicants who have not previously received Thrive funding are encouraged to join the Thrive Africa Accelerator before applying.

The accelerator helps organizations connect with advocates across Africa while allowing Thrive to better understand their work.

Additionally, first-time Africa-based groups may have stronger chances through the Seed Grant pathway.

Ineligible Projects

The following are not eligible for Thrive Grant funding:

  • For-profit companies or businesses
  • Restaurants or commercial ventures
  • Animal farming or animal-use projects
  • Projects using animal-based products
  • Cellular agriculture initiatives
  • Food giveaways or hunger-relief distributions
  • Farmed animal welfare campaigns
  • Tuition, student research, or university fees
  • Political parties or candidate endorsements
  • Military or police food aid programs
  • Work inside the United States
  • Chapters of large international organizations
