UNICEF Climate Ventures 2026: Get $100,000 Equity-Free Funding for Climate & Health Tech Startups in Emerging Markets
Spread the love

The UNICEF Venture Fund has officially opened applications for its groundbreaking Climate Ventures Cohort 2026, offering up to $100,000 in equity-free funding to startups building innovative solutions at the intersection of climate change and children’s health.

This initiative is designed to support frontier technology startups from emerging markets that are creating scalable, open-source solutions to address some of the most urgent challenges affecting children globally.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Climate change is increasingly threatening children’s access to healthcare, clean water, nutrition, and education. Today:

  • Around 1 billion children live in high-risk climate zones
  • Over 466 million children face extreme heat conditions
  • Climate shocks continue to worsen existing vulnerabilities

Despite these realities, many climate innovations fail to prioritize child-specific needs. UNICEF Climate Ventures aims to close this gap by investing in child-centered, data-driven solutions.

What You Will Receive

Selected startups will gain:

  • Up to $100,000 in equity-free funding
  • Technical support from UNICEF experts
  • Access to a global innovation network
  • Opportunities to scale solutions with real-world impact

Focus Areas for Innovation

UNICEF is seeking startups working across four key areas:

1. Strategic Planning

Solutions that improve climate risk mapping, pollution tracking, and data-driven decision-making for communities and governments.

2. Early Warning & Early Action

Technologies that provide real-time alerts for climate hazards such as floods, disease outbreaks, and extreme weather.

3. Healthcare Readiness

Predictive tools and AI-powered systems that help health systems prepare for climate-related health risks.

4. Point-of-Care Support

Digital solutions that enable healthcare workers and communities to access, interpret, and act on climate-health data.

Eligible Technologies

Startups leveraging frontier technologies are strongly encouraged, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Machine Learning (ML)
  • Blockchain
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Data-driven platforms

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, startups must:

  • Be registered in a UNICEF programme country
  • Have a working prototype (early-stage or growth-stage)
  • Commit to open-source licensing and practices
  • Build solutions relevant to climate and child health challenges

UNICEF strongly encourages women-led startups and young founders to apply.

Deadline

Applications are open until 17 May 2026.
