What Is the Future Energy Leaders Programme?
The Future Energy Leaders (FEL) Programme is a flagship global initiative of the World Energy Council, designed to identify, inspire, and support the next generation of energy leaders.
The programme brings together a diverse, high-potential network of young energy professionals from over 65 countries, engaging them in national, regional, and international energy dialogue. Participants contribute to influential research, policy discussions, and collaborative projects addressing some of the world’s most pressing energy transition and sustainability challenges.
Each year, a select group of outstanding candidates is admitted into this competitive programme, gaining direct exposure to global energy decision-making platforms.

As a Future Energy Leader, you will:

Contribute to global energy transition tools and studies
Participate as an expert or observer in the World Energy Council’s authoritative research and analytical work. -
Design and deliver high-impact projects
Develop practical outputs such as webinars, events, and national or regional initiatives through a flexible, collaborative framework. -
Attend premier global energy events
Gain access to select World Energy Council events, including the World Energy Congress and World Energy Week, engaging directly with senior leaders and policymakers. -
Build a powerful international network
Connect with peers, experts, and institutions shaping energy policy, innovation, and investment worldwide. -
Shape tomorrow’s energy systems
Contribute fresh perspectives that challenge conventional thinking and bridge generational gaps in the energy sector.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
The programme is open to highly motivated young professionals who demonstrate leadership potential in energy or related fields.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Demonstrated interest and proven track record in energy or energy-plus fields

3–5 years of junior management experience in an energy-related role
-
Clear evidence of leadership potential and professional achievement
-
Strong motivation to contribute to the World Energy Council’s work

Willingness to remain engaged for 1–3 years

Advanced English proficiency

Under 35 years old at the time of application
-
Availability for at least 15 days of programme engagement annually
(20 days in World Energy Congress years) -
Employer validation required
Each year, approximately 35 new Future Energy Leaders are onboarded globally.
