Apply to Join the Youth Task Force for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

The UN Decade Coordinator is now seeking new members to join the Youth Task Force. If you are passionate about ecosystem restoration or know someone who is, you are encouraged to apply or nominate candidates using the application form. Be sure to submit any supporting documents to restorationdecade@un.org as outlined in the application form.

The Youth Task Force plays a crucial role in ensuring that young people have a meaningful voice in the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This initiative is aligned with the principles of the United Nations Youth 2030 Strategy, emphasizing the importance of engaging with and for young people.

The first Youth Task Force successfully completed its two-year term on 31 December 2023. The UN Decade Coordinator extends heartfelt thanks to all the young experts and advocates who dedicated their time and efforts to lead this important work.

Role and Responsibilities

As a member of the Youth Task Force, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to policy advocacy: Provide advice to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the co-lead agencies of the UN Decade.
  • Facilitate youth action: Support and amplify youth-led initiatives for ecosystem restoration.
  • Foster knowledge exchange: Create a space for capacity building and sharing insights among youth constituencies.

The term for membership is two years, with the possibility of renewal. Members who served during the first term may be reappointed based on their contributions.

 

Who We Are Looking For

The UN Decade Coordinator is seeking representatives from the following groups:

  1. Youth counterparts of UN processes related to ecosystem restoration.
  2. Youth counterparts of UN agencies involved in the UN Decade.
  3. Person-centric and minority youth stakeholder groups.
  4. Youth/youth groups identified through this public application process.
  5. Youth members of the UN Decade Advisory Group (as deemed relevant).

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee. The committee will consider factors such as geographical representation, gender balance, and relevant expertise. Eligible youth leaders and advocates are encouraged to apply and share this opportunity within their networks.
