Diverse Voices PhD Scholarships: Comprehensive Support and Networking for Minority Students
The Political Studies Association (PSA) is excited to announce the continuation of its Diverse Voices PhD Student Programme for the 2024/25 academic year. This initiative aims to support Black and minority ethnic students currently undertaking PhD studies in Politics and International Relations.
About the Programme
The Diverse Voices PhD Student Programme is designed to address the unique challenges faced by minority PhD researchers, including isolation, lack of institutional support, and perceptions of disadvantage. This programme offers a platform for early career scholars to network, share experiences, and receive tailored support and mentoring. It focuses on helping students build essential soft skills, access valuable resources, and advance their academic careers in an inclusive and supportive environment.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Diverse Voices PhD Student Programme 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a PhD student in their 2nd, 3rd, or final year, affiliated with a UK Higher Education Institution, and plan to remain affiliated until the end of the scholarship
- Self-identify as Black, Asian, or minority ethnic based in the UK and studying at a UK university
Applications from women and UK state-educated scholars are particularly welcomed.
Programme Benefits
Participants of the Diverse Voices PhD Student Programme will receive:
- One year’s complimentary PSA Membership
- Attendance at PSA25, the PSA’s annual international conference
- A £500 grant
- In-person networking meetings and workshops
- Online mentoring sessions
The programme will be led by Dr. Heather Alberro, Dr. Aleida Borges, and Dr. Roula Nezi, with support from the PSA’s Diversity & Projects Officer, Joan McDappa. They are looking forward to receiving your application and supporting your growth within the discipline and association.
