Job Overview
UNU-INWEH is seeking a motivated and skilled Researcher to join its team in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. This role is critical in supporting UNU-INWEH’s projects and initiatives focusing on water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), health, gender, behavior, and justice. As a Researcher, you will contribute to the development of innovative solutions, policy-relevant knowledge, and capacity-building activities that address global WASH challenges amid climate change.
Key Responsibilities
- Research Contributions:
- Lead and contribute to WASH-related initiatives, including project activities, outputs, and deliverables.
- Provide technical expertise across various UNU-INWEH programs.
- Conduct data collection, analysis, and prepare state-of-the-art publications on emerging WASH and health issues.
- Lead project reporting and liaise with external partners.
- Collaboration & Contribution:
- Foster integrated, cross-thematic approaches to global challenges, emphasizing WASH and health vulnerabilities.
- Support the development and implementation of UNU-INWEH’s future research directions.
- Assist in managing contracts with partners and ensure effective project execution.
- Capacity Building & Education:
- Contribute to capacity-building initiatives aimed at nurturing future global leaders.
- Develop and launch new online courses and contribute to curriculum development.
- Supervise and mentor interns, students, and young researchers.
- Knowledge Sharing & Fundraising:
- Engage in fundraising activities, including the development of interdisciplinary proposals.
- Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals, publications, and policy briefs.
- Support the dissemination of research findings and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Ph.D. in public health, water/environmental engineering, or related fields relevant to WASH, health, gender, and justice.
- Experience:
- Minimum of one year of research experience in areas like integrated water resources management, behavioral analysis, environmental justice, or climate change adaptation.
- Three years of post-master’s experience in WASH and health is highly advantageous.
- Strong skills in data analysis, literature synthesis, and policy-oriented research.
- Skills:
- Excellent writing, research, presentation, and networking skills.
- Proficiency in managing databases and using word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with respect for diversity.
- Experience in project management and prior UN or similar intergovernmental organization experience is desirable.
- Language: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
Remuneration & Contract Details
The successful candidate will be offered an attractive compensation package, including a competitive annual salary and benefits such as 30 days of annual leave and health insurance. The initial contract duration is one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance. The maximum duration on a PSA contract with UNU is six years, and the mandatory retirement age is 65.
