British Academy Innovation Fellowships: A Unique Opportunity for Researchers

The British Academy, funded by the Department of Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT), is excited to announce the Innovation Fellowships scheme. This initiative, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and other partners, aims to provide funding and support for early-career and mid-career researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Bridging Academia and Industry

The Innovation Fellowships are designed to foster partnerships between researchers and organisations across the creative, cultural, public, private, and policy sectors. The goal is to address significant challenges that require innovative solutions. By supporting the SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) community, these fellowships promote knowledge mobilisation, translation, and skills development.

The scheme offers two pathways:
– Route A: Researcher-led
– Route B: Policy-led

This call specifically invites applications for Route B, in collaboration with the FCDO.

Engaging with FCDO Policymakers

The FCDO has critical research needs, where timely, evidence-based analysis is essential. This fellowship provides researchers the chance to work closely with FCDO policymakers, embedding their expertise directly within the government’s work. This close interaction is crucial for having a significant impact on policy development.

Focus Areas for Research

Applications are invited for fellowships in the following areas:
1. India
2. The politics of energy transition and climate change in Africa
3. The role of technology in shaping citizen-state relations in Africa
