Location: Kigali, Rwanda
Job Schedule: Full-time

Contract Duration: 1 Year with Possibility of Extension

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Programme Analyst specializing in Midwifery and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) to join their team in Kigali, Rwanda. This role is a unique chance to contribute to significant improvements in maternal and child health in Rwanda.

Background

Rwanda has achieved remarkable progress in maternal and child health over the past decade. The maternal mortality ratio has dramatically decreased, and access to basic health services is now nearly universal, thanks to widespread health insurance coverage and community-based healthcare initiatives. However, challenges remain, particularly in reducing neonatal mortality and ensuring sustained quality of care. Skilled, competent midwives play a crucial role in addressing these gaps.

UNFPA recognizes that well-educated and well-resourced professional midwives are essential for delivering high-quality SRHR services. Midwives in health facilities and communities empower women and youth, providing them with the resources and opportunities to access vital reproductive health services.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance in managing the delivery of SRHR programmes.
  • Policy Development: Engage in policy dialogue, coordination, and development frameworks related to SRHR.
  • Programme Harmonization: Support the harmonization of SRHR programmes targeting marginalized populations.
  • Promotion of Midwifery: Enhance midwifery education, association, and regulation.
  • Quality of Care: Support the implementation of WHO recommendations on maternal and neonatal care.
  • Coordination Forums: Participate in national forums for neonatal health and safe motherhood.
  • Field Monitoring: Conduct field visits to assess programme progress and provide recommendations.
  • Resource Mobilization: Contribute to fundraising efforts and promote innovative financing for programme sustainability.
  • Visibility: Increase the visibility of UNFPA’s work in SRHR through various communication channels.
  • Reporting: Contribute to quarterly reports, M&E reports, and other documentation.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Midwifery, Public Health, Medicine, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in clinical midwifery. Experience in developing countries, particularly Rwanda, is preferred.
