The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Education Policies for Global Development (GLOBED) is a leading postgraduate program in globalization, education, and international development.

Funded by the Erasmus+ program for the third time (2023–2029), this two-year, 120 ECTS full-time program provides a rigorous, interdisciplinary approach to education policy and development. Designed for motivated graduates, GLOBED combines theoretical learning, research, and practical experience to prepare students for impactful careers in education and international development.

Program Overview

GLOBED is structured to offer students high-level academic training and practical exposure to global educational challenges. The program spans four semesters, with contributions from universities across Europe and beyond, ensuring a diverse and international learning experience.

Semester Breakdown

  1. Semester I: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
    • Courses focus on foundational topics in education and development:
      • Global Education Policies (5 ECTS)
      • Theories of Social Justice (5 ECTS)
      • Educational Development, Poverty, and Global Inequalities (5 ECTS)
      • Basic Research Methods (10 ECTS)
      • Actors in Education and Development (5 ECTS)
  2. Semester II: University of Glasgow, University of Cyprus, or University of Bremen
    • Students choose a university and take specialized courses:
      • Advanced Policy Inquiry (10 ECTS)
      • International and Comparative Education (10 ECTS)
      • Special and Inclusive Education (10 ECTS)
      • Advanced Research Methods (10 ECTS)
  3. Semester III: Associate Partner Countries
    • Gain hands-on experience through:
      • Internship (academic or professional, 15 ECTS)
      • Fieldwork and Winter School (10 ECTS)
      • Regional Specialization (5 ECTS)
  4. Semester IV: Master’s Thesis
    • Complete a 30 ECTS thesis, supervised by faculty from partner universities in Barcelona, Glasgow, Cyprus, or Bremen.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences or related fields (e.g., Sociology, Political Science, Human Geography, International Relations).
  • Minimum duration: Three years or equivalent to 180 ECTS.
  • Minimum grade average: 7/10 or GPA of 2.75/4.

English Proficiency

  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 90, with at least 24 in writing.
  • IELTS (Academic): Overall 7.0, with no component below 6.0 and 6.5 in writing.
  • Cambridge Proficiency C1 or equivalent.

Additional Documents

  • Valid Passport: Required for identification.
  • Europass CV: Clearly outlining skills and qualifications.
  • Official Transcripts and Diplomas: Translated into English or Spanish if not in the original language.
  • Letter of Motivation: Maximum one page explaining your background and reasons for applying.
