Empowering Youth Voices: Generation Democracy Membership Opportunities

Introduction:

Despite comprising 56% of the global population, youth are often underrepresented in political and civic engagement. The International Republican Institute (IRI) addresses this gap through its flagship youth network, Generation Democracy, providing 271 young leaders from 79 countries with opportunities to enhance their capacity for effective mobilization, champion democratic reform, and overcome barriers to meaningful youth participation.

What We Seek:

Generation Democracy is on the lookout for young, democratically-minded leaders advocating for youth-friendly policies and community activities. The goal is to ensure their generation has a voice in decision-making and empower young people to lead.

Eligibility:

• Age: 18-35 years old
• Not a U.S. citizen
• Proficient in English

What We Offer:

To facilitate meaningful youth participation, Generation Democracy provides:

1. New Skills:
   • Political and civic engagement training in communication, advocacy, leadership, and program management.
2. New Opportunities:
   • Member-led activities, training, and consultations to apply political and civic engagement skills.
3. New Connections:
   • Collaboration with other democratically minded young leaders through youth-led opportunities.

Accessible Opportunities:

• Attendance at annual events like the Global Summit and regional Leadership Labs.
• Funding opportunities for collective action in civic and political participation.
• Representation at high-level trainings, panels, and conferences.
• Networking platforms to build relationships with members.

Membership Application Process:

• Fill out the membership application survey.
• Include a reference for the final review by the IRI team.
• Evaluation by Generation Democracy Board members and IRI staff.
• Notification of membership status within two months.
• Invitation to a virtual orientation session for new members to maximize their network experience.

Application period:

• Jan 1 to 31.
• April 1 to 30.
• July 1 to 31.
• Oct 1 to 31.
