Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) 2027 is a prestigious two-week academic enrichment program at Yale University for outstanding high school students from around the world. The residential program brings together students from 150+ countries and all 50 U.S. states for an intensive global learning experience on Yale’s historic campus.

Applications for YYGS 2027 are now open. The program will offer three residential sessions in June and July 2027, with academic tracks covering science and technology, politics, law and economics, and global challenges.

What Is Yale Young Global Scholars?

Yale Young Global Scholars is a globally diverse summer academic program designed for high-achieving high school students interested in exploring academic subjects, developing their ideas, and connecting with peers from around the world.

Each summer, nearly 2,000 students from more than 150 countries and all 50 U.S. states participate in YYGS. The program emphasizes collaborative learning, international perspectives, academic exploration and student-led discussion.

YYGS offers an interdisciplinary environment where students can explore STEM, social sciences, humanities and cross-disciplinary subjects while living and learning together at Yale.

The program also provides significant financial support, distributing more than $3.5 million USD in need-based financial aid to domestic and international students.

YYGS 2027 Academic Sessions

Who Can Apply for YYGS 2027?

Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

Age

Applicants must be 16–18 years old by July 18, 2027, the first day of Session III.

YYGS states that no exceptions can be made to this age requirement because of restrictions relating to summer programs for minors.

Grade Level

Applicants must currently be a high school sophomore or junior, or an international equivalent.

Graduation Date

Applicants must be graduating:

  • May/June 2028 or 2029 in the Northern Hemisphere; or
  • November/December 2027 or 2028 in the Southern Hemisphere.

English Fluency

Students must be able to participate in a rigorous academic program conducted in English.

Previous YYGS Participation

Applicants must be first-time YYGS participants.

Students who participated in a YYGS session during a previous summer, including 2026 or earlier, are not eligible for YYGS 2027.

However, students who previously applied but were not admitted, or who were admitted but could not attend, may reapply if they meet the current eligibility requirements.

International Applicants

Students from all countries are eligible to apply. YYGS also offers need-based financial aid to eligible students from all countries.

How to Apply for Yale Young Global Scholars 2027

The YYGS application process involves several steps.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

Review the official YYGS eligibility criteria before beginning your application.

Step 2: Review the Required Application Components

Make sure you understand all documents and information required for the application.

Step 3: Review a Sample Application

YYGS provides a sample blank application that prospective applicants can use to prepare their responses before completing the online application.

Step 4: Contact Your Recommenders and School Officials

Depending on your application, you may need contact information for a parent or guardian, teacher and/or school official.

It is recommended that you contact these people early so they have enough time to provide the required information.

Step 5: Submit Your Application

Complete the online YYGS application and save your login details so you can return to the application later.

Step 6: Review Your Application

Use the application’s Review page to identify any missing information or required components.

Step 7: Submit the Application

Once everything is complete, submit your application through the online portal.

Step 8: Pay the Application Fee

Applicants must pay:

  • $85 USD for Early Action
  • $100 USD for Regular Decision

Application fees are non-refundable.

Students who have submitted a fee waiver request should check their Applicant Status Portal for the outcome. If a fee waiver request is denied, the application will not be reviewed until the application fee is paid.

Step 9: Confirm Your Submission

Applicants should receive a YYGS confirmation email confirming successful submission. Confirmation emails can take approximately 24–48 hours because of occasional payment-processing delays.

YYGS 2027 Application Deadlines

The YYGS application typically opens in mid-September and closes during the first week of January.

Admissions decisions are expected to be released:

  • Early Action: By mid-December
  • Regular Decision: By mid-March

Yale Young Global Scholars Tuition and Financial Aid

The full tuition for one two-week residential YYGS session is $7,500 USD.

The tuition covers the main on-campus components of the program, including:

Is YYGS Fully Funded?

YYGS is not automatically fully funded for every student. However, the program offers need-based financial aid that can cover up to the full cost of tuition for eligible domestic and international students.

Students are responsible for arranging and funding their own transportation and travel to and from Yale.

Important Payment Information

YYGS tuition payments are generally non-refundable, except in limited extreme circumstances, such as visa denial or a documented family medical emergency.

YYGS Residential Experience

YYGS 2027 is a residential-only program, meaning students live on Yale’s campus for the duration of their session.

Participants spend two weeks living in Yale residential colleges, eating in dining halls and learning alongside students from different countries and cultural backgrounds.

Students will reside at:

  • Benjamin Franklin College
  • Pauli Murray College

Residential facilities include laundry rooms, libraries, music practice rooms, courtyards, prayer space and communal areas.

Student rooms include a twin XL bed, desk, chair and wardrobe or closet.

YYGS provides three housing options: male, female and gender-inclusive housing, with housing assigned according to gender identity.

Life Beyond the Classroom

The YYGS experience extends beyond academic sessions.

Students can take part in activities designed to build friendships, encourage creativity and create a strong international community.

Activities include:

  • Family Time: Small groups led by a Residential Fellow provide students with a close community during the program.

  • Late Night Party: Students celebrate together after the completion of Capstone presentations through activities such as dancing, games and karaoke.

Does YYGS Give Academic Credit?

YYGS does not provide grades or academic course credit.

Instead, the program encourages students to explore ideas creatively and engage with learning without traditional classroom grading.

Get Started:

Step 1 Review the YYGS eligibility criteria.
Step 2 Review the YYGS application required components.
Step 3 Review a PDF of a sample blank application, and start preparing to answer as many application questions as possible.
Step 4 You will need to submit contact information for a parent/guardian, teacher, and/or official at your school. Reach out to them as soon as possible to review the PDF of a sample blank application with you, and be sure to collect the information you need.

Complete the Application:

Step 5 Click APPLY NOW to start your YYGS application. Be sure to write down your email and password to access the application at a later time.
Step 6 Check the “Review” page of the application to see if you are missing any required components, and re-visit any pages that require further information.
Step 7 Once your application is complete, click on the “Review” page. Next click on the “Submit Application” button at the bottom of the page.
Step 8 In your Applicant Status Portal, pay the $85 USD Early Action fee or $100 USD Regular Decision fee*.  All YYGS application fees are non-refundable.

If you submitted a completed Fee Waiver request, then you can check your Applicant Status Portal to see when it is approved or denied. If your Fee Waiver Request is denied, then your application will not be reviewed until the YYGS application fee is paid.

Step 9 Check your inbox for a YYGS confirmation receipt that indicates the successful submission of your application. Confirmation emails usually arrive within 24-48 hours of submission, due to occasional delays payment processing.
