ADB Young Professionals Program 2027

The ADB Young Professionals Program (YPP) is an entry-level recruitment program for talented professionals seeking to work in international development.

Successful candidates will join ADB as Young Professionals (YP1) and contribute to the Bank’s work supporting economic and social development across the Asia-Pacific region. Participants may be placed in an operations department or a department providing direct operational support, depending on their professional background and organizational needs.

The position is based at ADB Headquarters in Manila, Philippines, and relocation is required. ADB will cover reasonable relocation expenses.

As a Young Professional, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ADB’s Strategy 2030 and its development operations, including loans, grants, technical assistance, policy advice and knowledge products.

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Young Professional may be assigned to an operations department (e.g. CCSD, PSOD, OMDP, or Sectors Department) or to a direct operations support department (e.g. ERDI, SPD), depending on the successful candidate’s background and fit.

You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines and relocation is required. All reasonable relocation expenses will be covered.

You will report to the Director and/or designated Technical International staff and may supervise junior team members.

Your Role

The Young Professionals Program (YPP) is ADB’s entry-level recruitment program for motivated individuals seeking a career in international development. It offers opportunities to develop professional skills, understand ADB’s operations, and help achieve Strategy 2030.

As a Young Professional (YP), you will contribute to ADB’s mission and execution of main instruments comprising loans, technical assistance (TA), grants, advice, and knowledge.

Your Responsibilities

a. Strategy and Planning

  • Assist and participate towards the development of policy and strategy of ADB.
  • Apply own complex expertise to support others in research and analysis including development impact of ADB operations.

b. Project Management

  • Assist and participate in the development, processing and administration of non-complex loans, grants, and TA projects.
  • Support integration of ADB’s policies and guidelines in the design and implementation of projects.

c. Knowledge Sharing

  • Contribute to ADB’s activities for advocacy, knowledge sharing and building.

Qualifications

You will need:

  • A University degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Environment, Law, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or other areas relevant to ADB’s operations. A post-graduate level degree or its equivalent is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in any of the following fields: macro or development economics, climate change, commercial/investment banking or corporate investment, education, energy, environment, financial sector, public health, public-private partnership, rural development, transport, urban planning, water operations, and agriculture and natural resources. PhD will be considered in lieu of work experience.
  • International experience in areas related to ADB operations will be an asset.
  • Not more than 32 years old upon joining ADB.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English

Selection Process

Prepare for a multi-stage selection process if you are shortlisted. This includes an online assessment followed by a video interview where you record answers to pre-set questions in your own time. If you progress past this stage, you will be invited to panel interviews that take place in the first quarter of 2027.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff’s particular blend of skills and experience for the medium-term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff’s performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
