Eligibility: Young people aged 18–35 from Commonwealth member states
Programme: Leadership development, mentorship, institutional placement, international networking, and community impact projects
International Convenings: United Kingdom and Antigua & Barbuda (participants are generally responsible for their own travel costs)

Applications are now open for the Commonwealth Young Leaders Fellowship (CYLF) 2026, a flagship leadership programme of the Commonwealth Leaders Academy. The fellowship is designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills, global networks, and practical experience needed to tackle complex challenges and drive sustainable development across the Commonwealth.

Fellowship Benefits

Successful fellows will receive:

  • Leadership development through a competency-based programme
  • Mentorship and coaching from senior practitioners and policymakers
  • Institutional placement with partner organizations
  • Access to a global Commonwealth leadership network
  • Opportunity to design and implement a Leadership Challenge Project
  • Participation in two international convenings in the UK and Antigua & Barbuda

Fellowship Structure

The 3-month programme runs from August to October 2026 and includes:

  • Month 1: Onboarding and Immersion Week
  • Month 2: Institutional Placement
  • Month 3: National-Level Leadership Challenge Project
  • Final Showcase: Presentation of project outcomes

Fellowship Themes

Leadership projects should focus on one of the following areas:

  • Democratic Governance and Civic Participation
  • Digital Inclusion
  • Peacebuilding
  • Sustainable Development and Climate Justice
  • Public Service

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be 18–35 years old (typically)
  • Be from a Commonwealth member state
  • Demonstrate leadership potential or a strong commitment to community leadership, public service, or social impact
  • Be available to participate in the full three-month fellowship, including both international convenings

Travel and Financial Support

Fellows should plan for two international trips during the programme:

  • London, United Kingdom (late August 2026)
  • Antigua & Barbuda during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)

Unless otherwise stated, fellows are responsible for their own travel-related costs. The Fellowship Secretariat will provide visa support letters, while partial travel bursaries or accommodation assistance may be available if funding is secured and based on demonstrated need.
