FEC 2026 Innovation Challenge: Funding and Scaling Africa’s Next Generation of Clean Energy Innovators
The Future of Energy Conference (FEC) 2026 Innovation Challenge is now officially open for applications, inviting young African innovators to showcase breakthrough ideas that can transform the continent’s energy future. This high-impact platform is designed to identify, support, and accelerate solutions in low-carbon energy, clean technologies, and sustainable systems across Africa.
Hosted as part of the broader FEC ecosystem, this challenge connects innovators directly with policymakers, investors, development partners, and energy experts committed to accelerating Africa’s green transition.
The challenge will culminate at the Final Pitch Event in Accra, Ghana, on 25–26 August 2026, where selected finalists will present their innovations on a continental stage.
About the FEC Innovation Challenge
The Future of Energy Conference Innovation Challenge 2026 is a flagship innovation program under the broader Future of Energy Conference (FEC) initiative. It focuses on empowering young African problem-solvers who are building scalable solutions in the energy and climate space.
The challenge supports innovations that align with Africa’s urgent need for:

Innovation Tracks Available
Applicants can apply under two distinct tracks depending on their innovation focus.
Track 1: Pan-African Low-Carbon Innovation Track
This track supports broad, scalable energy solutions including:
- Renewable energy systems
- Smart and digital energy solutions
- Industrial energy efficiency technologies
- Off-grid and decentralized power systems
- Clean cooking innovations
- Circular economy energy models
This track is ideal for innovators working on practical, scalable, and impactful clean energy solutions.
Track 2: Afro-Hackathon Track (Battery Innovation Focus)
This specialized track focuses on:
- Lithium-ion battery design and development
- Energy storage innovation
- Battery value chain solutions
- Advanced energy materials
- Recycling and sustainability in battery systems
