Spread the love

Communities across the United States now have an incredible opportunity to receive free fruit trees and orchard support through the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF). This award-winning international nonprofit is inviting eligible organizations to apply for orchard donations that help fight hunger, improve the environment, and strengthen local communities.

If your school, nonprofit, public park, or community garden is looking to create a lasting source of fresh fruit and environmental education, this program could be the perfect fit.

About the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF)

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) is a globally recognized nonprofit charity dedicated to planting fruitful trees and plants to address some of the world’s biggest challenges. Their mission includes:

  • Alleviating world hunger
  • Combating global warming
  • Strengthening communities
  • Improving air quality
  • Enhancing soil and water health

FTPF strategically donates orchards where the harvest can serve people for generations. Their orchards are commonly planted in:

  • Community gardens
  • Public schools
  • City and state parks
  • Low-income neighborhoods
  • Native American reservations
  • Hunger relief sites
  • Animal sanctuaries

The goal is to ensure that fresh fruit remains accessible while creating educational and environmental benefits for the community.

What FTPF Provides

Organizations selected for an orchard donation receive far more than just trees. FTPF offers a complete orchard support package, including:

  • High-quality fruit trees and shrubs
  • Planting equipment
  • On-site orchard design expertise
  • Professional oversight during planting
  • Horticultural workshops
  • Aftercare training and manuals
  • Subsidized deer fencing where needed
  • Drip irrigation support when necessary
  • Volunteer coordination assistance
  • Educational planting-day experiences

For schools, FTPF also provides fun, age-appropriate environmental education programs that teach students about:

  • The importance of trees
  • Healthy fruit consumption
  • Sustainability and environmental stewardship

This makes the orchard project both practical and educational.

Who Can Apply?

FTPF orchard donations are available to organizations that can demonstrate a strong commitment to caring for the trees and using the orchard for charitable purposes.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Nonprofits
  • NGOs
  • Public schools
  • Government entities

Important Note for International Applicants

At the moment, FTPF is not accepting applications from outside the United States because their international programming is currently at capacity.

Applications submitted from outside the U.S. will not be processed at this time.

FTPF Orchard Application Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Serve a Charitable Purpose

Applicants must be a nonprofit, NGO, public school, or government entity working toward a charitable mission.

2. Long-Term Commitment to Tree Care

Recipients must commit to maintaining the orchard permanently and using it to support their charitable goals.

3. Suitable Planting Site

Applicants must have enough horticulturally appropriate land to host a grove of fruit trees planted about 15 feet apart.

Most programs require approximately:

  • 15–20 trees minimum

The FTPF application helps assess whether your site is suitable.

4. Land Ownership or Long-Term Access

Applicants must either:

  • Own the planting site
  • Have a long-term lease
  • Partner with a nonprofit or government entity that owns the site with a long-term usage agreement

5. Reliable Irrigation Access

The orchard site must have a dependable year-round water source nearby.

6. Volunteer Participation

Recipients must help coordinate local volunteers for planting day, as community involvement improves long-term orchard stewardship.

Why This Opportunity Matters

An FTPF orchard is more than a tree donation—it is a long-term investment in food security, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.

Whether you manage a school, a nonprofit, or a public community space, this opportunity can create lasting impact for generations to come.

If your organization is ready to grow fresh food, engage volunteers, and improve your local environment, now is the perfect time to apply for an FTPF orchard.

Application Deadline

There is no fixed deadline for FTPF orchard applications.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, meaning organizations can apply at any time.

However, FTPF notes that their schedule is currently near capacity, so response times may be slow. Applicants should be patient, as worthy projects are often considered when suitable opportunities arise.

Once submitted:

  • You will receive an acknowledgment letter
  • Your application remains permanently in FTPF’s database
  • There is no need to reapply if you do not hear back immediately
