CaribOx Visiting Fellowship & Travel Grants 2027: Funded Research Collaboration with the University of Oxford
The CaribOx Visiting Fellowship & Travel Grants 2027 offer fully funded opportunities for Caribbean-based researchers to collaborate with the University of Oxford while advancing their academic work. Designed for scholars across disciplines, this initiative provides funding, institutional access, and international research exposure through both long-term fellowships and short-term research visits.
About the Program
The Caribbean Oxford Initiative (CaribOx), led by TORCH, is a collaborative programme that connects researchers from Caribbean institutions with academic partners at Oxford. It aims to strengthen global research partnerships while amplifying Caribbean scholarship across disciplines.
For 2027, the programme offers two main pathways: the Visiting Fellowship Scheme and Travel Grants.
The Visiting Fellowship provides a 12-month engagement, combining ten months of virtual collaboration with a two-month in-person residency at Oxford during Trinity Term (April to June 2027). Fellows receive full financial support, including return flights, accommodation, a daily stipend, and access to Oxford’s academic resources.
The Travel Grants, on the other hand, support shorter research stays of two to four weeks at Oxford. These grants are ideal for researchers seeking targeted collaboration, archival work, or participation in academic activities during the same term period.
Both pathways are designed to foster meaningful academic exchange while removing financial barriers to international collaboration.
Why This Opportunity Matters
Access to global research networks remains uneven, particularly for scholars based in underrepresented regions. The CaribOx programme directly addresses this gap by investing in Caribbean researchers and enabling them to engage with one of the world’s leading academic institutions.
By facilitating collaboration with Oxford-based scholars, the programme helps bridge geographic and institutional divides. It also ensures that Caribbean perspectives contribute to global academic conversations, strengthening diversity in research and knowledge production.
Additionally, the initiative emphasizes inclusion by encouraging applications from researchers from minoritized backgrounds and those with non-traditional academic paths.
What Participants Will Gain
Participants benefit from more than just funding—they gain long-term academic value and global exposure.
Fellows and grant recipients will have the opportunity to develop strong international research collaborations, which can lead to joint publications, future funding opportunities, and sustained academic partnerships. Access to Oxford’s libraries, resources, and academic community provides a significant boost to research quality and output.
The in-person residency allows participants to immerse themselves in a world-class academic environment, attend seminars, and engage directly with leading experts in their field. At the same time, the structured virtual engagement ensures continuity and long-term collaboration beyond the physical visit.
Financially, the programme removes key barriers by covering travel, accommodation, and living expenses, enabling researchers to focus entirely on their work.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to researchers across all academic disciplines who are based at Caribbean research institutions.
For the Visiting Fellowship, applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent), be employed by a Caribbean academic institution, and have an existing or potential collaboration with an Oxford-based researcher.
For the Travel Grants, eligibility is broader, covering doctoral students through to mid-career researchers, including those without a doctorate in certain cases.
Applicants must demonstrate a clear research plan and show how participation will contribute to their academic development.
Eligible Areas
Applicants must be legal residents of Caribbean countries, including the Windward and Leeward Islands. They must also be affiliated with an academic institution within the region.
All participants are required to comply with UK visa regulations, including a commitment to return to their home country after completing the programme.
Application Process and Deadline
Applications for both the Visiting Fellowship and Travel Grants must be submitted via email.
For the Visiting Fellowship, applicants must secure a statement of support from an Oxford-based collaborator, submit a completed application form, provide a CV, and include a letter of support from their home institution.
For the Travel Grants, applicants are required to submit an application form and CV outlining their research objectives and planned activities.
The deadline for both opportunities is 15 September 2026 at 17:00 BST. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered, so early preparation is strongly advised.
