The Asda Foundation Local Community Spaces Fund 2026 is now open, offering grants of up to £20,000 to support grassroots organisations across the UK in improving and sustaining vital community spaces.

This funding opportunity is designed for community groups, charities, and social enterprises that manage spaces bringing people together. With over £1.2 million available this year, the fund aims to strengthen local communities by supporting projects that create safe, inclusive, and accessible environments for people of all ages and backgrounds.

About the Program

The Local Community Spaces Fund supports essential improvements to community buildings and shared spaces across the UK. Since its launch, the initiative has invested millions into local hubs that serve as lifelines for communities, addressing challenges such as social isolation, lack of accessible facilities, and deteriorating infrastructure.

The 2026 funding round focuses on projects that repair, renovate, or enhance community spaces to ensure they remain functional, welcoming, and sustainable. This includes upgrades such as heating systems, accessibility improvements, structural repairs, and refurbishment of key facilities.

Projects funded under this program must demonstrate clear community benefit and show how the space will continue to serve diverse groups throughout the year.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Community spaces play a critical role in fostering connection, inclusion, and wellbeing. Across the UK, many of these spaces are facing growing pressures due to limited funding, rising costs, and increasing demand for services.

This fund directly addresses these challenges by enabling organisations to maintain and improve spaces that support vulnerable populations, youth programs, cultural activities, and essential community services.

By investing in infrastructure, the program ensures that local organisations can continue delivering impact, strengthening social cohesion, and addressing issues such as loneliness and inequality.

What Participants Will Gain

Successful applicants will receive financial support to transform and sustain their community spaces. This funding enables organisations to carry out essential improvements that may otherwise be unaffordable, ensuring long-term usability and impact.

Beyond financial support, recipients gain the opportunity to enhance their service delivery, expand community engagement, and create safer, more inclusive environments. Improved facilities can also help organisations attract more users, increase participation, and strengthen their role within the community.

Additionally, funded projects contribute to long-term community resilience by ensuring spaces remain operational, accessible, and responsive to local needs.

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to grassroots organisations that operate community spaces within the UK. Eligible applicants include registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and Community Benefit Societies.

Applicants must demonstrate that their organisation has been established for at least three years and operates a space that is open and accessible to the community year-round. The program prioritises organisations that serve diverse groups and provide inclusive, low-cost or free services.

Eligible Areas

The Local Community Spaces Fund is open to organisations based in the United Kingdom. Projects must take place within the UK and directly benefit local communities.

Application Process and Deadline

Applications are currently open, with submissions accepted between 14 April and 28 April 2026. Due to high demand, applications may close earlier if funding capacity is reached.

To apply, organisations must first complete an eligibility check on the official website. Applicants will then register on the grant management system and submit a detailed application, including supporting documents such as financial records, governance documents, safeguarding policies, and project plans.

Shortlisted applications will undergo a two-stage review process, with final decisions expected by 31 August 2026. Successful projects must be completed by December 2027.

Find out if you are eligible and apply on the Asda Foundation website.
