Africa CDC & AVMI Industrial Fellowship Programme 2026–2027: Fully Funded Vaccine Manufacturing Training for African Graduates
The Africa CDC and African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative (AVMI) Industrial Fellowship Programme 2026–2027 is now open for applications, offering a highly competitive and fully funded opportunity for recent African graduates to gain hands-on experience in vaccine manufacturing.
This flagship programme is designed to address Africa’s urgent need for skilled professionals in vaccine research, development, and manufacturing. With the continent aiming to significantly scale up its vaccine production capacity by 2040, this fellowship plays a critical role in building a strong, self-sufficient workforce.
Background and Rationale
Africa currently faces a significant gap in vaccine manufacturing capacity, both in terms of infrastructure and skilled human resources. According to projections, the continent will need approximately 12,500 full-time professionals in vaccine manufacturing by 2040. However, the current workforce ranges between only 2,000 and 3,000 individuals, many of whom are not fully specialized in vaccine production.
Traditional reliance on international training programmes has proven to be costly and unsustainable due to financial constraints and visa-related challenges. Additionally, there is a shortage of industrial placements within Africa to provide graduates with practical, hands-on experience.
To bridge this gap, the Africa CDC, in collaboration with AVMI, launched this structured industrial fellowship programme to train and equip the next generation of vaccine manufacturing professionals.
