Compensation: USD 17.95 per hour

About the Internship
The Intern, Science Policy & Government Relations (Grassroots) will join AGU’s Science Policy & Government Relations team and contribute directly to efforts that connect scientific research with public policy. The internship focuses on grassroots advocacy, helping scientists engage effectively with policymakers and decision-makers to ensure science informs policy at all levels.
This role is ideal for candidates available for full-time work for three months during Spring 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the organization and delivery of science policy workshops, trainings, and Congressional engagement activities, both virtual and in person
- Assist in coordinating efforts that equip scientists with tools and confidence to engage in the policy process
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to assess the reach and effectiveness of grassroots and grasstops advocacy programs
- Contribute to storytelling and data visualization efforts that showcase advocacy impact
- Support the development of advocacy campaigns that mobilize scientists
- Create and adapt content for newsletters, blogs, social media, and AGU’s Science Policy Action Center
- Help tailor advocacy messaging for diverse audiences, from first-time advocates to experienced science communicators

Candidate Profile
Applicants should demonstrate:
- At least two years of coursework toward a bachelor’s degree in Earth or space sciences; advanced degrees are a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in U.S. legislative processes and grassroots advocacy, or a willingness to learn
- Passion for Earth and space sciences and science-informed policymaking
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and online research
- Experience with social media, science policy, data analysis, or visualization is an asset but not required
