About the Diana Award Mentoring Programme
The Diana Award Mentoring Programme supports young people aged 14 to 18 who are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). By pairing them with professional volunteers, the programme helps develop career skills and encourages youth-led social action.
Volunteer mentors work in small teams to guide groups of students through career development sessions and community impact projects, helping them build confidence, purpose, and pathways toward their future.
Programme Details
Location: London, UK (specific boroughs listed in the application form)
Delivery Sites: Secondary schools, further education institutions, and alternative provisions
Programme Dates:
- Autumn Term: October 2025 – February 2026
- Sessions are paused during school holidays
- Training & Onboarding: August – September 2025
Commitment:
- 12 weekly sessions
- 60 to 90 minutes per session (excluding travel time)
- Same day/time each week
- Sessions are delivered in-person, facilitated by a Diana Award staff member
Role of a Volunteer Mentor
As a volunteer mentor, you will:
- Commit weekly to 12 mentoring sessions over the autumn term
- Support and deliver group mentoring activities in a school setting
- Collaborate with other mentors and Diana Award staff to provide engaging, structured support
- Encourage youth-led community projects tackling real issues faced by the participants
- Offer guidance on careers, confidence building, teamwork, and leadership
Each group consists of three to six mentors working with a cohort of 15–25 young people. The goal is to provide consistent, positive adult engagement and help young people build vital life and career skills.
