About the Junior Fellows Internship Programme

The Junior Fellows Internship Programme in the Office of the Rector is one of UNU’s flagship capacity-building initiatives. It offers a rare opportunity for young professionals to gain hands-on experience within a UN agency while supporting institutional development, event coordination, and strategic communication.

Interns are given real responsibilities and contribute directly to the University’s work in policy research, administrative planning, and outreach. Junior Fellows are not just observers—they are contributors who play a vital role in helping UNU achieve its mission of advancing global knowledge and public policy.

  • Individuals under 32 years of age
  • Applicants with a strong command of English (French is a plus)
  • Professionals with fewer than 5 years of work experience in a related field
  • Individuals with a demonstrated interest in the UN system and sustainable development

A position may also be available in UNU’s Paris office for one selected applicant fluent in both English and French.

  • Drafting newsletters, social media posts, and official communications
  • Managing meeting logistics and minute-taking
  • Developing project management and analytical tools (Excel skills are useful)

Interns work full-time, Monday to Friday (9:30 am to 5:30 pm JST), with weekends and official UNU holidays off. A monthly stipend is provided to those not receiving financial support from another source.

Training and Work Environment

The internship begins with a structured one-week orientation to help Junior Fellows understand UNU’s mission, operations, and culture.
