West African Research Center Travel Grant: Support for Academic Research Across Africa

The West African Research Center (WARC) Travel Grant promotes intra-African collaboration by supporting research visits across the continent. This grant provides up to $1,500 for travel costs and an additional $1,500 stipend.

Eligible Uses:

• Visit libraries or archives in Africa with resources necessary for your academic work.
• Engage in collaborative work with colleagues at another African institution.
• Travel to a research site within Africa.

Eligibility: Open only to West African nationals, with preference given to those affiliated with West African colleges, universities, or research institutions.

Application Requirements:

• Abstract (50-80 words) outlining the purpose of the visit.
• Project/Research description (up to 6 double-spaced pages) explaining the relevance of the travel to your research. This should be understandable to non-specialists.
• Proposed budget.
• Curriculum vitae, including research and teaching experience.
• Photocopy of passport (proof of West African nationality).
• Online submission in PDF format.
• Letter of recommendation from a professor or colleague.

Additional Documents Required:

• For institution visits: Invitation from the host institution.
• For archive consultations: Description of the collections to be consulted and their significance to your research.
• Graduate students: Letter of recommendation from your research supervisor.
