Scholarship Alert: Advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Belgium

Are you a national of an ARES partner country? Do you have a higher education degree? Do you have professional experience and would you like to deepen your skills in a development-related topic?

The ARES scholarships offer you the opportunity to follow a one-year advanced bachelor’s or master’s degree program or a 2-to-6-month continuing education program within a higher education institution of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.

The application period for the International Training Scholarships for the academic year 2025-2026 is now open.

Objectives of International Training

  • Increase the level of qualifications of participants
  • Empower people in their countries of origin
  • Strengthen interpersonal and professional networks
  • Improve the capacity of the home institutions of scholars
  • Highlight international themes
  • Promote the expertise and experience of participants of  training courses
  • Enable scholarship holders to become agents of change in their home institutions and in society, in favor of development

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality and Residence: Must be a national, resident, and working in one of the 31 eligible countries listed below.
  • Educational Background:
    • A diploma comparable to a 2nd cycle diploma (300 ECTS credits) from a Belgian university for specialized masters and continuing education courses;
    • A diploma comparable to a 1st cycle diploma (180 ECTS credits) from Belgian higher education for specialization baccalaureates.
  • Professional Experience: At least two years of relevant professional experience in an ARES partner country.

How to Apply

  1. Create or Use an Existing GIRAF Account: GIRAF Account Creation
  2. Access the Application Form: Navigate to Application for international training > My tasks > Competitive calls.
  3. Complete and Submit the Form: The form can be saved and completed in multiple sessions. Submit your application by clicking “Submit my application.” Once submitted, you can view but not modify your application in the “My submitted files” table.

Deadline: 18 October 2024 at 12 PM.

Eligible Countries

  • Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zimbabwe.
  • South America and the Caribbean: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru.
  • Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam.
  • Asia: Palestinian Territory.

Duration of Programs

  • Bachelor’s and Specialised Master’s Degrees: Up to 12 months.
  • Continuing Training: 2 to 6 months.

Financial Support Includes

  • International travel expenses.
  • Subsistence allowance.
  • Visa application costs (for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Tuition fees (for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Indirect mission expenses (for continuing education).
  • Insurance costs.
